Who Killed Kurt Cobain? (Cont.)
MOJO issue 54 - May 1998

Additional research by Mat Snow.

WHODUNNiT?. Ten fantastic stories circulating about the death of Kurt.

1 Courtney did it
'Nuff said.

2 Courtney caused him to do it
"She tore Kurt apart. Nothing Kurt Cobain could do could make Courtney Love happy. If he did kill himself, I know why!" Hank Harrison, 1996

3 Courtney knows who did it
"I think he was drugged and killed by people that Courtney had no control over. They might have said. 'Look. we're going to kill the guy - you have to go along with it." Hank Harrison (again), 1996.

4 The nanny did it
Michael DeWitt, the Cobain's live-in nanny, allegedly saw Cobain at the house on April 2. The JAM! Showbiz internet news service postulated that the "drug-addled male nanny might have wanted to kill Cobain to show his love for Love".

5 His drug dealer did it
According to Love, Cobain was being harassed by Capitol Hill narcotics dealers.

6 El Duce did it
$50,000 is a lot of money

7 His accountant did it
$9.5m, the value of the cancelled Lollapalooza tour, is even more.

8 Geffen/Gold Mountain/Time Warner etc... did it
The Elvis Presley estate is worth $50m a year. What might Cobain's be worth?

9 William Burroughs did it
According to Seattle-based Friends Understanding Kurt (FUK) Cobain had acquired a Dream Machine, a trance-inducing light gizmo created by Brian Gysin, popularised by Burroughs, and allegedly proven to have induced "a string of suicides... since the '60s".

10 Kurt Cobain did it
And now appears to depressed gothic webheads - he supposedly visited several of the Internet's darker denizens to say suicide hasn't made him any happier.
